The results that this tool gave me were very bouncy curls that had quite a bit of volume.
The barrel is 1 ¼ inch, so if you’re looking for something smaller or larger, take note of the size before purchasing. When I first started, my hair would get tangled inside the barrel, and I’d have to pull the curl out and start again.
The device took me some time to get used to, and I definitely had to practice using it several times to get it right. I tend to wear beach waves that are slightly loose and less uniform, so the curls I achieved with the Chi Lava Spin N Curl were definitely different than what I’m used to wearing. You’ll then want to slide the tool downward to release the hair and move on to the next section. Once the curl is completely set, you will hear four beeps. You can choose three settings: 15 seconds, 17 seconds, or 19 seconds. Hold that button to spin the barrel around the hair automatically, and once it’s curled into the chamber, it will stop rotating. The Spin N Curl has two buttons with arrows that signal right and left, so you’ll press whichever button you want (one curls away from the head, the other curls towards the head). You need to hold the tool vertically with the backside facing the head, take at least a one-inch section of hair, and lay that section in the opening of the curl chamber. The important thing to note is this isn’t designed like a regular curling iron the barrel is inside rather than outside the tool. This curling tool was a bit tricky for me to get acclimated to at first and I had to really practice.
